Castilla stepped on to the pitch at the Di Stéfano stadium with an undefeated home record in 2013 and the firm intention of maintaining their status against Guadalajara. And they succeeded. The Whites’ top performance, with two goals by Jesé and Cheryshev, gave the side managed by coach Toril its tenth victory in La Liga Adelante this season and its third straight home win. The visiting squad, with little to do against an efficient Castilla, closed the gap with the help of Kepa in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the visiting team and the Whites walked away with the win.
La Liga Adelante returned to the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium, where Castilla remains undefeated in 2013 after a draw against Girona and victories against Villareal and Almería. The Whites wanted to prolong their undefeated status against Guadalajara, which became more than evident when the squad took to the pitch: in just 15 minutes Castilla got off three warning shots. Cheryshev gave the first in min. 5 with a shot that went high over the crossbar. Jesé took his turn a mere five minutes later with an off-target shot that crossed close to the rival’s goal. Juanfran made a third attempt with a shot from distance that was saved by Toño.

But these warning shots were just a prelude as the Whites quickly brought the score to 1-0. A brilliant play by Juanfran up the right wing and a pass to Jesé in min. 22 ended in Castilla’s first goal of the match. From there, the match continued without any clear opportunities for either side, yet the locals continued to dominate while Guadalajara barely created any danger for Castilla goalkeeper Thomas Mejías.

Guadalajara hit the ground running after the restart and their set pieces began to chip away at the Whites confidence. The visitors began to put the pressure on Castilla, who had lost the dominance they had in the first half of the match. Vicente could have had the equalizer in min. 52 but a providential Juanfran blocked the 1-1. Azcorra took his turn next with a header that didn’t find its mark. Meanwhile, the Whites sought a counter that could sentence the game. In min. 55 Jesé laid off an inside pass to Cheryshev who controlled the ball with precision to beat the visiting goalkeeper with a cross shot that pushed Castilla ahead by another point (2-0).

Despite the score Guadalajara continued to show signs of life in the clash and refused to let up on their pressure on the local team. Kepa closed the gap in min. 78 with a shot from outside the goal box picked up from a corner. To secure their tenth win of the season the Whites had to maintain their lead for the last ten minutes of the match. Juanjo put Mejías’ reflexes to the test in one of the last plays of the game, but the goalkeeper deflected the shot with ease. The match ended with Toril’s squad maintaining its undefeated status at home in 2013 after picking up a deserved win against Guadalajara under the watchful eye of club president Florentino Pérez.
